Owners of the 3.5+ acre cornfield at the corner of Little Egypt Road and Route 896 have applied to the
county to rezone their property from Suburban Residential (SR) to Business General (BG), a zoning
which could support a strip mall, a gas station, or any of a number of other undesirable businesses in the
heart of our semi-rural residential area. Commercialization there would create hazardous road
conditions, more traffic, line-of-sight and ingress and egress problems, and real potential for
contamination of ground water and neighboring wells. Worst yet, a successful rezoning here would create
a precedent that could open the door to a cascade of similar rezoning rulings.
